1. Work hard at what you’re doing and show your passion by creating a lot of content initially. Get a hook on a large story or something worth being linked to for. Prepare a buzz campaign on this story / post. by using the proper names, for instance, of famous characters who have buzz and interest from the main stream media, a properly optimized blog post will rank for that name: this is called online ‘conquesting’.
2. Target specific communities and be very proactive about contacting them, send bloggers personal e-mails; be nice, be relevant and again show passion. Passion attracts.
3. Put yourself in a box – Make sure the story can be understood or generates interest just for the headline. If it’s going to spread in a viral way without a huge budget you’re going to need it to really resonate with the “right” people – you need evangelists for your story.
4. As soon as the story is ready to leak, push and promote it as much as you can. Bloggers and social media are heavily biased towards the bleeding edge or brand new. As soon as the story breaks, that’s the time to push. Leverage the press and buzz to generate more press and buzz. Buzz generates buzz: it is like rolling a ball and pushing it at the same time: as the momentum builds, pushing it becomes easier, until it will actually roll a long way on it’s own.
