  • Do not expect them to understand your verbal description of the graphics or look you want
  • Prepare example sites and example graphics of what you’re looking for. Send those along with any written descriptions
  • Prepare a list of questions – if you have them – send them an email in advanced to phone calls or in-person meetings so they’ll have time to prepare to answer your questions properly and fully
  • Evaluate the design company based on merit and history before discussing specifics
  • Choose someone to trust based on experience
  • Listen to input from your chosen trustworthy project manager
  • Do not ruin the effectiveness of the result by over-specking the work to arbitrary mandates that may increase the cost and/or reduce the effectiveness of the finished project
  • Don’t make it difficult to tell you the truth by being arbitrary because you do not want to believe it: a quality adviser will tell you things that you do not want to hear, because they are true
