rubyWhat’s good about Ruby on Rails?

You have almost no limitations. Your website can be as elaborate as you want and you can add new features directly. You’ll have complete control over the flow and look and feel. You can customize it 100%; there is nothing you can’t customize or change with a Ruby on Rails site.

The down side:

There is currently no CMS  comparable to WordPress,  Drupal, etc. that is  written in RubyOnRails.  As a result, it will require a lot of custom development and specialized programming knowledge to build your site in RubyOnRails.

I don’t recommend Ruby on Rails for any site without a serious maintenance budget and long term plan and strategy. When the value of your website comes from the content uses put in it as opposed to business logic, a CMS like Drupal will make the most sense.  However, if the value of your application is primarily in your custom business logic and you need to hit that logic on the Tee without much Content Management Features, you should look at RubyOnRails over other web application frameworks. Even Java and .NET inter-operate with ruby via jRuby and IronRuby.  We decided to use Drupal for http://MoviePals.org because it is primarily a film-making community website with some custom features.

Recap

If you’ve been following since the beginning of this guide, you should have some content ready to go, a list of features you need, and an idea about what content management system to build on.

Note: This is as far as I have gotten with editing, which was sorely needed.  By all means, read on: but do not expect sentence structure, grammar, or punctuation to be perfect yet.
