A list of basic content useful for website creation:

  1. About Us – says who you are and why anybody should care
  2. Website Mission Statement for all pages (your  Tag-line: what your website/business is trying to accomplish)
  3. Contact Page
  4. Welcome or Home message (may be on the about page)
  5. Services, products or any commercial offerings
  6. Initial post or news release – for portion of the site that will be updated regularly as things change.
  7. Author Bio – talks about who the individual(s) doing the posting is (are)

Now let’s go into a few of them in more detail to make sure you get the most ‘bang’ for your initial ‘bucks’.

The About Us Page
Make sure the voice is consistent with the rest of the website and you keep it either in 3rd or second person (you can speak directly to your visitors the same way I’m doing now, which is frowned upon in some forms of formal writing, but sometimes works well online).

Things to include:

  • Photo of your company, logo or yourself
  • 2 or more paragraphs that say who you are and what the point of the site is.city

An Initial post or news release

To start the section off, offer some type of beginning post about what is coming, what you are trying to do and who you are.  Include what your experience is and why anyone should believe you or consider your opinion.  The goal here is to give the visitor a reason to subscribe, and/or bookmark the site to see what is about to be released.

Initial posts or articles you can write before you even launch your website:

  • An article offering tips or advice or discussing industry related problems and solutions.
  • A rant that indicates a serious problem or danger in the marketplace
  • A call to action for a heart-wrenching cause that you want to promote
  • A titillating preview of something to come
