2013 How Link Authority Works for SEO Blogging

You will find thousands of conflicting S.E.O. guides for blog posting.  My protege John Kitts, who was my original trainee and who now has had his own UpLog.org ‘clone’ (the original one) since 2006, where he earns a full time living from about 100 clients and growing, has made a series of great videos covering some of our style of WordPress S.E.O. -they are here, the one above is the first one on this page.

My article from earlier this year, has been replaced line one number one with the version that DZONE published here – due to their amazing link-authority: ‘blog posting SEO guide‘ Google search.

But when you compete as we do, with people like seobook.org, seomoz.com, wordtracker.com and Mashable.com (the largest, best optimized WordPress MU site on the planet), it takes more than onsite and offsite technique and strategy to rank for searches like this one which bring up 25,700,000 competitive results from other professionals: it takes link-authority.

It is because DZone.com is one of the largest and oldest directories, and has been around since the eighties, and has always been a high quality content aggregate, that the article of mine that they published out-rank mine.   Indeed, if I was not an established expert with link authority and rankings of my own, they would not have approached me originally to blog with them as a part of their new “MVB” program, and the proof of concept in this article would not exist: http://www.dzone.com/articles/2013-5-minute-blog-posting-seo.

An educated SEO expert with a high IQ may be able to reverse engineer what I do and achieve some success – but only longevity and consistency of content production build link authority on Google and others.  The highest bump of all to your own authority is to be re-published thus; and their reason for doing so is obvious since it is creating rankings and traffic for them…

To fully understand this you must understand that it is a specialty: a specialist cannot do it, on purpose calling it ahead of time as only I do, even with everything I do not share, without link – authority of their own.

The content market is maturing online, and slowly replacing the clout of other forms of media.  The Nielsen Rankings are already changing, and are more and more dependent on on-demand online viewing, and social media engagement and feedback.  This trend, that we started talking about here: http://socialmediasystems.com/blog/the-slow-death-of-seo-as-we-know-it/ in 2008 will continue.  As the market matures, clear winners like DMOZ.com, and Yahoo Voices (formerly Associatedcontent.com) will position themselves, and traditional SEO will give way to modern content marketing.  You cannot go back in time, so you cannot catch DZONE, Yahoo voices, or even me at UpLog.org with 115 blogs and growing created just for this purpose.

The only way to the top of very competitive global searches now is to get somebody, some group, some moderator, or some content publisher to see value in your content, as we have done here; or to become a niche content publisher/aggregate as our clients at UpLog.org do, connected to “the ROAR of all of US”  for size and power.

Our best SEO tricks will never be published, even for our clients – that training is done one – on- one, in private.

However, let me recommend groups, especially on Linkedin, Google+ and Facebook.  If you are a regular contributor to the right niche communities  and/or are a founder of a niche community or group that grows and is active, you gain that authority on your own, for merit.  A new development in the last year is the introduction of Google communities; they are new, they are growing  the work very well for rankings authority; example: this Building a Company group already has 20,470 members.  If I had started it only a few months ago, I would be very happy with that!  It is an open group, so anybody wanting to reach 20,000 consultants (me) is behooved to post there, as I will post this article – probably after DMOS re-publishes it up so that I can use that version for credibility;)

Re-read this article three times, and you will begin to see the big picture, the way that it is all the same as it always was; the media is digital now, some of the players have changed, but the proverbial game remains the same.

Social Media Optimization for Bricks and Mortar Retail | S.M.O. for Dummies – Failure of Main Stream Media

In 2001, we had to sell online advertising by giving away free classifieds.  As we placed their free classified ad, we were able, in about 45 minutes, to load enough technical understanding into what we invented and were selling to make a sale.

Selling new media technology and methods in old, over-ripe bricks and mortar markets like retail clothing, sports equipment, bars and lounges, car dealerships is more education than it is selling: the cheese has already moved and is moving.

Early adopters like these, are dominating search results, social networks, Facebook…these are our sponsors for our little Coos Bay Social Network.  Three months ago,  these search results were dominated by the yellow pages, the chamber of commerce, Meetup.com was number one even though the nearest group was 69 miles away.  But no outdated manufactured behemoth is any match for properly optimized and promoted local content: my local clients rank for every conceivable desired search, cumulatively, for MERIT, in perpetuity!  Examples (they are also on every page of coosbay.uplog.org)


Yet many bricks and mortar businesses are just getting websites now for the first time; they are lacking in many search areas such as social networks and images and YouTube; and they are still spending way over the required budget on things like the yellow pages – lead generators who get almost no traffic, and who charge $300 month or more for minuscule ads on pages populated by every competitor in town – I hope your name is 1-A!

Somewhere between changing everything that was working, and to some extent still does,  over to something unknown, risking failure; or watching a slowly slipping away market fade until you are out of business, there is sanity, survival, and profits at less than the outdated yellow page ad alone costs…

In change is opportunity, and risk.  What used to be called S.E.O. (search engine optimization), was a fuzzy combined discipline of onsite optimization, black hat and grey hat hacker tricks, and taking advantage of what others do not know; but has now evolved into what I call S.M.O (social media optimization), now that social media and new media have become digital media, THE MEDIA, larger than all four of the major M.S.M. (main stream media) networks combined.

The failure of main stream media, due to the way that it has been manipulated, diluted, bought, corrupted, politicized and corrupted by special interests (the proverbial “Man”), has leveled certain playing fields (we all have a voice) while corrupting others: to say that Fox, CNN, CBS or ABC offer hard, no-spin news is a joke!

Main-Stream-Media has been weighed- measured and found lacking

 

At the very least, you all need these:

  1. A modern, integrated website that you can edit and change at will, linked to all your other online assets.
  2. Google+, Google Places, Linkedin.com, Facebook and niche profiles, optimized for reputation management and organic search.
  3. An ongoing strategy of content production and distribution through social networks and groups linked-back to the website, building traffic and rankings organically.
  4. Pictures and Videos and Opinions to share,  the more the better.
  5. An understanding of basic rules for formatting Meta Data on all of the above for long-term cumulative success.
  6. An ever-increasing list of customers, employees, contacts, friends and neighbors resulting from the above, whom you can reach anytime with any message in nothing flat for free!

“I know I need to do something with social media, but I do not understand what it is, or how it can help me…”

Sheesh!  Where do I start: let me see….

  1. What is the Internet – almost all the computers and people  in the world connected and talking to each other.
  2. What is social media – the modern Internet with niche affinity groups connected together by way of ethnicity, location, industry preference, religion, demographics, politics..
  3. How do I benefit from Social Media – you must give to get, you must make a contribution to the discussion, to the Internet itself; then, you are found when people search for what you do where you do it on Google, Facebook…need i say more? YouTube…
  4. Internet is basically a Meritocracy: in other words, those who contribute the most work, are rewarded the most.
  5. Why don’t free blogs work – WordPress.com, Blogger and other free networks have no quality control – the content is not high quality, is not arranged in a geographic specific and topic specific way, and these are full of random dead sites, so they do not work.  Controlled networks like dzone.com and  are much more effective because they create a better resource for the visitor, and a better networking environment for the users.
  8. Now what – you need a perfectly optimized blog (automated modern website) that is fed by the right niche places that you spread your contribution around in the right way linked back to you.
  9. Result: you outrank your competitors on search when people look for what you do where you do it.
