Selecting the right mouse can be incredibly important—nearly as important as selecting a keyboard.

The standard mouse design is another legacy from the earliest days of computing. The mouse was invented by Douglas Engelbart in 1963; in 1972, Bill English invented the ball mouse while working for Xerox PARC.  Over time, new versions of mechanical and, later, optical mouses were developed. Even as advances were made in tracking technology, the standard design, in which the mouse’s buttons are located on the top of the mouse (requiring you to twist your arm in order to use it), has remained relatively unchanged. One benefit to having the mouse buttons on the top of the mouse as opposed to on the left or right side is that you can use the mouse whether you are left or right-handed. This design, however, leads to discomfort and injury.

Be extremely careful how you use your mouse; it is a common cause of injury.
