Keyboards

For many computer users, the keyboard is their most important input device. Unfortunately, the keyboard is an often-misused tool. Every key that you press makes an impact on your body; keyboard use is a highly mechanical process. The goal is to minimize this impact while maintaining your productivity so that you can be productive for longer periods of time.

A computer athlete minimizes the impacts caused by using input devices.

You can minimize this impact in a number of ways. The easiest of these techniques is to purchase a low-impact keyboard. The impact caused by everyday use of the keyboard stems from numerous factors, many of which can be improved quite easily. The amount of force required to press a key and the distance your fingers need to travel, as well as how the keys behave once they have been pressed, are all important factors in minimizing impact. If you determine that you need a new keyboard, don’t let the daunting number of options prevent you from realizing at least some improvement. You may even need to try a keyboard out for several weeks or months before you know if it is the right one. Since you use a keyboard every day, it makes sense to invest the time and money to find the right one for you.

All keyboards are not created equal.
