A computer athlete has the right equipment—and also uses it properly. You can purchase the right equipment and have a great setup, but still develop debilitating injuries through improper use. For example, I have seen people who had two monitors but placed one monitor off to the side so that they had to twist their neck in order to see the screen. As a result, they developed pain in their neck and back.
Just as with proper usage, using proper equipment is also incredibly important. If a small-framed computer athlete uses a keyboard that requires a large amount of pressure to press and hold the keys relative to their strength and body size, it is likely that the repetitive stress of typing will lead to injury. Pushing down on the keys becomes akin to taking a tiny hammer and hitting one’s fingers thousands of times a day. Doing something that causes a small amount of wear and tear a few times can lead to a small problem. Doing something that causes a small amount of pain a large number of times, however, can lead to a big problem. Use of the wrong keyboard for your body can cause extreme hand and finger pain.
