Here are some prioritized changes you can make to your setup in order to compute in comfort. These prices are from 2008 and will vary; I mention them simply for illustrative purposes.

  1. Under-desk Keyboard Tray – $100 to $200
  2. Additional Monitor for Dual VGA (depends on video card support) – $100 to $300
  3. Chair – $100 to $300
  4. Keyboard – $30 to $200 and roughly 1 to 2 days’ retraining
  5. Mouse – $30 – $100 and 1 to 4 hours’ retraining
  6. Alternate Input Device – $100 to $400 and 1 to 2 days’ retraining
  7. Voice Recognition – $100 to $900 and 1to 4 weeks’ retraining
  8. Alternate Keyboard Layout – $0 and 1 to 3 weeks’ retraining

These suggestions have been ordered to minimize cost and maximize your return on investment. The above is not intended to be an all-encompassing list. Your usage patterns and needs will affect your priorities as you purchase these items.
