This morning I feel something great coming on: that is my ‘self talk’ as I prepare to change my life with one blog post. If you are skeptical, read on; and be enlightened.
Over the years I have started thousands of days in this way: asking myself what it is that I can say that will change my life and feed my business. I am a blogger; and, in spite of everything else that I do, the great majority of my clients come from a well written, or even a poorly written post, that struck a nerve., or inspired somebody, or somehow otherwise got me a lead.

As I sit here, and look at this old ad from Real Estate Magazine, I realize all the different names we have been known under since our birth as a free ads provider, turned Website design firm, turned marketing company: really what I do do is not that far off from what most of you do as a Realtor and/or Real Estate vendor: I get up and look at the crazy marketplace that I serve, and somehow attempt to make myself and my company stand out from the never ending flood of well-intentioned mistakes and and D.O.A. start-ups and burn-outs that grace our industry constantly.
In the last ten years, I have invented and sold over $10,000,000 in products and services that I invented, and, if that does not seem like much to you, consider that what we do exists only in cyberspace, and that all of our asserts, 100% of them, exist online. Sometimes it can be a little bit scary to think that you whole life’s work exists thus.
I have an ongoing debate with an ex-girlfriend: she maintains that all negativity is bad, and that anyone who understands what is billed now as “this law of attraction” (but is really just a modern redo of Earl Nightingale’s “Strangest Secret in the World”) must avoid all negative thoughts.
On the other hand, I know that it is the perspective of knowing who I am and where I am from that defines me: the good, the bad, the ugly. The ad above did not result in leads, but made people more comfortable than it’s predecessor: which only ran for one month because of complaints from a certain female CEO:

This ad caused a great deal of heat, LOL, and also made us some money. I could ignore and forget this whole incident and episode , and start on a new path, but that would miss the point: that in order to plan where we are going, the prospective provided by where we have been is invaluable.
There is more opportunity than ever online, and things change more and more quickly all the time, and the names and the faces change, but the game remains the same. More than anything else, that is what defines our success in this business: longevity.
Just as you have seen literally millions competitors come and go, I have created my own competition by educating the masses, then outlived them in spite of my help.
Perhaps in that perspective exists the real lesson, one of tenacity and longevity: perhaps it is our view of the same realities that others spin differently that really defines our strengths and weaknesses? Your thoughts? The fact that one well placed ad or post or sentence or image can make or break a company is obvious, and very powerful. I can tell you that what we offer now is a much better value and is much more effective than what we did then (5-10 years ago)
I can tell you from my own experience that amazing things are possible; that our past defines us to some extent: what can you tell me?
