In order to maintain our rankings at our old site (rothmanmarketing.com) (which now is a 301 redirect to this one) without losing our first page search engine recognition for:
…and many others too numerous to count: we had some considerations: we really should have taken the time to manufacture a special redirect for each of about 200 seperate articles which are syndicated at Webpro News, Real Estate magazine and others; but we already have significant placement at our 90 day old re-branded website (this one) because it has over 5000 incoming authority links and growing (due to our syndication as one of the most read blogs in the world): so we used a 301 (permanent) redirect instead: we used the WordPress rewrite modual:
Here is the syntax to do it without WordPress on a unix server: you write a text file named .htaccess like this:
Redirect 301 * http://socialmediasystems.com
Redirect 301 /advertising-consultant.html http://socialmediasystems.com/04/15/moving-guide/
Redirect 301 /business_advertising.html http://socialmediasystems.com
Redirect 301 /internet-advertising.html http://socialmediasystems.com
Redirect 301 /online-marketing.html http://socialmediasystems.com
Redirect 301 /sitemap_resources.html http://socialmediasystems.com
The advantage of this method is that you can redirect specific pages to specific pages which are optimized to come up under the same searches.
Doing this well is an art as well as a science, because when you are moving an established site (rothmanmarketing was only 6 months old, but was already a wonderful proof source) one does not want to loose the momentum that has already been gained. If you do not know how, may I humbly suggest that you use a professional?

That would be an extensive undertaking on a large blog like yours.
Yes, but by using the Worpress rewrite mod it was a snap.
I am faced with doing this on another one of my sites and hope it is going to be a “snap”
