Paypal is a sham.

If you are a merchant good luck trying to get your funds back if a consumer does a chargeback.

Merchant beware!

Secured process transactions solution will overcome the multi-currency barrier and prevent chargeback risks by making customers feel as if they are shopping in their own country and in their own currency.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We've had a similar experience with our merchant account. Over a year ago, in 2008, our merchant account, iPayment decided to hold all of our funds for 6 months to a year and all future transactions from that point on because of what they felt was a "high" chargeback rate. My husband and I run a small, but growing online business and completely relied on this income to pay the bills. With our merchant account holding the funds for over 6 months to a year, we thought we were going to have to declare bankruptcy and close up shop. Thank god for Paypal. Like you, we now use Paypal Website Payments Pro and Paypal IPN for all our payment transactiions. We also use our Paypal debit card for 1.5% cash back on all of our business transactions. We receive several thousands of dollars a year from their debit card cash back program.

Thank you for this insightful article!

The only problem we have as South African business owners is that Paypal does not allow us to make use of their service to sell online.

This has caused a lot of irritation for the online business community in South Africa. So many systems have been developed to use Paypal, not to mention all of the great benefits you have listed above.

If only Paypal could do something about this - South Africa has the biggest economy in Africa and has huge potential for online growth.
