Ads can be placed now, the regional editors will be integrating the free ads links into the state and regional maps pages!

The new pricing for business wanting to sponsor the state level, regional level, or any category of classified ads (no two categories can be alike):

Exclusive sponsor of an exclusive free classifieds category: $99 per month: to understand why anybody would want to pay that, you must understand UpLog.org, the ads will rank on the search engines for every year make model, zip code…

The rest of the story: I have done it all before, and I knew it work all along: the regional editors are the contact people, the content editors and moderators, and they get 50% of the money! History:

So much has changed that it has taken me forever to get around to updating this:

2011 Rothman Selling System for Social Media Updated

“The truth is: there is no us and them: only us. We go there together, or we don’t go, as a team.”

Sunday, Aug 28, 2011 – Israeli Rothman

The all new opportunity for 2011 is to join the social media explosion:

Some say that only 7% of all advertising dollars are spent online. How much do YOU think that that will change in the next few years? In this new gold-rush, the picks and shovels are to be found at upLog.org – WE ROAR!

*Credit where it is due – I am open-sourcing this information -

“I should tell you that I have had almost every main-stream selling course there is in my thirty four years as a professional salesperson: first at European Health Spa (the Dale Carnegie Course);then Office Machines (fortune 500 training including the Lee Duboise course); then the automobile business (Grant Cardone, Tommy Hopkins…)

I credit all of these and many other great sales trainers for starting me off and many little tidbits have been updated in this guide to reflect a changing market. No matter what industry you are involved in, successful business requires sales: I will omit some of the stuff that is specific to my business, and I will continually improve and add to this so bookmark it:”

Introduction:

Now that more and more business is conducted online, there is a gap between supply and demand that can only be filled with knowledge of how and why people make decisions to buy, or not to buy as the case may be.

1. Rule number one: pick the battle that you can win:

Bizop – Social Media Advertising Agency – the gold rush of our century!

Ten years ago, in a little company called oregonfreeads.com, I began prediction the death of the industry that I took part in inventing – the SEO industry. I was a pioneer in using user-generated, user filtered content to produce a website dominance online . Now I am telling you that the content, and the popularity of the content and the content producer are all that matters anymore; that day has arrived: with Google+ and +1, the days of fake rankings are quickly coming to a close – get over it!

The only sustainable solution is now to be a content producer and/or aggregate with some kind of value-added: the race now is on to produce the value added layers of content and navigation to the web that are lacking, as cyber-real estate is now worth more than dirt!

ENTER: UpLog.org

There will be a blog here for every city and state: only one for each. There can be one blog for each industry niche; and an unlimited number of E-Books. Each is a business opportunity because we roar as friends and followers and tweeters weekly together with our blogs and profiles!

As a team, we can dominate any organic search terms intentionally and easily. Therefore, we are exclusive: and conflicts of interests are not aloud. Our groups of contractors and professionals all over the world are the best anywhere, and together our power in the search engines and social networks is enormous.

You can be the exclusive city-state.uplog.org for your area, and/or you can make money selling advertising, at whatever you want to charge – work at home. You make $79 for each referral and residual commissions of 10% for one year on anybody you recruit and/or mentor: you can own your own local platform and be in business for $179.00: no payments: play-to-pay one good post per week, no payments ever, no obligation…call 805-827-2450 my cell, right now!

When people ask us: are you web designers, web developers, SEO experts?
We answer “no: that is a small part of what we do.”

These are all things that fall under the umbrella of what we do (Internet advertising), but each only plays a small part of a larger enterprise: making money online.

The first rule of any marketing campaign is to know the market and your target customer: in our case, it is a messed up marketplace: with everybody and his brother claiming to be able to design websites and/or create placement and hits; yet most of them fall into the category of the “blind leading the blind:” definition:
People who do not really know what they are talking about selling to people who do not really understand what they are buying, with no standards of pricing or performance.

For that reason, we take great care not to fit into any box that allows people to mistakenly categorize us: nobody who needs a consultant is willing to pay for one: so we sell the result of what we do, then do what we must to bring about that result; adding value along the way after the sale.

Since anybody else who can assure results with any consistency is exorbitantly expensive because of these very same problems with the market, we are positioned perfectly to offer a wanted and needed service to a starving market, packaged and delivered in a readily accepted bundling: which is the secret to repeated success in marketing our services in a competitive marketplace: we are market driven.

The market:

All the over-educated unemployed people the world, all undermentioned or poorly represented local national and regional businesses; all independent professionals, consultants, programmers, designers, marketers, writers, entrepreneurs and authors. – IE Everybody in the whole world who is willing to work – or to pay for results driven, cost effective advertising!

Everybody who needs an income.

Everybody who has an outdated, and/or impossible to rank (invisible) website

Everyone who needs traffic to a website

Everyone who needs to manage their personal and professional reputation online

What they all have in common – an even increasing desire to connect, do business, buy, sell, date, get up to date, learn, and otherwise interact completely online. We at upLog.org, provide the tools, rankings, training, placement, community, training and connections: the sheer power to do so: everything you need to be in business full time immediately earning a six figure income as an independent executive for $179.00 US at upLog.org:

2. It is no longer who you know: it is what you know that matters: blogging is the answer:

It is like the difference between being a newspaper reporter, and owning the newspaper: if you have a free blog at blogger.com, wordpress.com, Google, Yahoo, Windows Live or anywhere else: the content will not help you get on top of the search engines. If, however, you have your own, properly optimized blog originating at your site, you will rank for your chosen search terms – even thousands or millions of combination choices of key words!

In short, having a blog (on somebody else’s system) will not get you to the top of Google (The Media); but being a blog (from your own social media hub) will!

>>>more soon>>>

Computers are changing the world. Are you keeping up??

Computers.

Over the last 30 years, they have changed the way we do just about everything here in the U.S., and as the technology reaches to the farthest ends of the planet, they impact the entire world.

We have the awesome examples of the peaceful overthrow of a government in Egypt, and the sad example of drones killing innocent people in distant lands. As time marches forward, information technology will become even more important, as our culture, laws, and even belief systems will have to change, adapt, and evolve to incorporate this new capability.

I spend a lot of time in front of my computer. I use it to get news, and to communicate with clients, family, and friends on the Internet. I use it to call people around the world. I use it for research. Sometimes I use it for music and hobby pursuits. Recently I’ve begun to use it more and more for blogging and writing.

So, my computer is a very important tool. As such, it needs to be maintained, and proper care must be taken in order to keep it running smoothly. Also important is protecting the data that is on my machine. I have a degree in computer science, and a Master’s Degree in Information Management. I have build and fixed and tuned computers for the last 25 years. However, as the systems have gotten more complex, and the threats to them have become more serious, I have delegated many of the tasks to software and utilities designed and sold by people who do that *all* the time.

And so, as a means of trying to help my fellow earth citizens, I am going to share everything I have running that is designed to keep me so doing. I will also share information regarding applications, as I have incorporated the use of many free (or very inexpensive) apps and tools into my system.

The base operating system that is running on my desktop system is Windows XP Media Center Edition.

This site was created for a client who started one of the earliest online diamond jewelry store. They needed a way to manage their stock and inventory with speed, ease, and efficiency, on a site with a nice elegant, sleek and modern look. The products are organized in categories such as engagement rings, gems and stones, etc. so the buyers may find exactly what they’re looking for. There is a shopping cart that lets customers make their purchases directly from the site and each product has its own description page with the details of itself. Below the front page slider are 3 columns of information that the client felt was crucial for each customer to know: their experience and history, their clients’ testimonials, and their policies to protect the buyer.

When famous marketer Seth Godin wrote his Best Selling book: Purple Cow, in which he examines modern marketing including the putting of ads on milk cartons: I am sure that he meant that a Purple Cow (a business that stands out) yields more milk (money) than one that blends in.

If this seems too obvious to you:

How professional and up-to-date is your website?

Can I opt-in to your feed?

Can a push a button and become your friend on any bookmarking site or social network I like without typing?

How professional is your Twitter profile?

When do you tweet?

How often do you blog?

Where do you re-post partial articles?

What groups do you organize?

What groups are you a part of?

When was the last time you updated your pitch-video?

OK, I could go on and on: but the point is: there is a brave new world out there when it comes to marketing online. You cannot do a professional job yourself: this has become a specialty, like a doctor or a lawyer (actually, Emily almost went to Law School before she figured out that she did not want the job!)

Just s you would not perform surgery on yourself, or represent yourself in court: the things that I, or Emily may say about you would be immodest if you said them.

So here is my question: how long will you wait before you cal Emily? Will you stay alive on the operating table long enough for us to save you??

Whether you need a commercial space in the Hollywood or Santa Monica area, or to grow your business to be able to afford one, independent marketing consultant Emily can help you for as little as $150!

I have considered doing this many times over the years: I am going to publish the latest version of my selling system, which we used to sell over $10,000,000 in services that we invented to businesses over the last 10 years.

I should tell you that I have had almost every main-stream selling course there is on my thirty three years as a professional salesperson: first at European Health Spa (the Dale Carnegie Course);then Office Machines (fortune 500 training including the Lee Duboise course); then the automobile business (Grant Cardone, Tommy Hopkins…)

I credit all of these and many other great sales trainers for starting me off and many little tidbits have been updated in this guide to reflect a changing market. No matter what industry you are involved in, successful business requires sales: I will omit some of the stuff that is specific to my business, and I will continually improve and add to this so bookmark it:

Introduction:

Now that more and more business is conducted online, there is a gap between supply and demand that can only be filled with knowledge of how and why people make decisions to buy, or not to buy as the case may be.

1. Rule number one: pick a battle you can win.

The same methods can be applied to any business (and they are all online these days!):

Know the market

Address the problems of the market (your intended customers) with the way you position yourself in that market (address the ‘pain’ of the customers, and provide a solution)

2. It is no longer who you know: it is what you know that matters: blogging:

It is like the difference between being a newspaper reporter, and owning the newspaper: if you have a free blog at blogger.com, wordpress.com, Google, Yahoo, Windows Live or anywhere else: the content will not help you get on top of the search engines (they actually insert specific tags to make sure of this!).

3. Why can’t I do what you are saying without you? I am a do-it-your-self-er:

This need not be a hot-potato issue: people will try to do everything by themselves to save overhead, and simply fail: ask yourself these questions:

Would you represent yourself in court?

Would you operate on yourself?

Can you grovel and blow your own horn at the same time?

The obvious answer to all three is NO: so why is it that people try to catch up with online marketing experts and years of experience promoting websites on the search engines, and try to do everything else they are doing at the same time?

Consider this: internet advertising (or any other specialty) requires a huge knowledge base in computers, programming, and coding standards, and a complete understanding of search engines, blogging, social media, and marketing in general. Even if they could catch up, and keep up, our entire staff spends every day keeping up with daily changes, and our existing online clout has link building power and page rank from our many profiles which is not easily duplicated.

But suppose for a moment that you are some sort of 24 hour geek who could actually do some of what we do: why would you want to deny yourself, your business the increased power of what we can do? Does anybody really think that they can see themselves as others see them; or that their business will not benefit from placement that they do not have?

And if they really can do it themselves, or with existing personnel, why haven’t they; and how much in missed revenue has that cost them??

Summary: address these questions head on and put them behind you.

4. I need to show it to someone else, can you provide a written proposal objection:

Here is the problem: the person you are talking to does not understand; the person it is being showed to will not understand: and there is another problem: people do not buy a product or service from anyone they do not like, and it is impossible to decide that you like somebody you have not met, at least on the phone.

Green salespeople do not hear what is really being said here: this response actually means one of the following:

I do not understand

I do not want to understand

I think I understand, but I do not want to buy

I do not want you to meet my boss because he will buy this and it will make work for me

I want to spin what you are saying to make sure we don’t buy it

I am actually naive enough to think I can do a good job of putting it across

I think I want to buy this and that scares me because I am analytical and don’t like to make decisions

I work by the hour and you are boring me, I am thinking about my date tonight, etc…

In all these cases, this is the best way to respond:

I am sure you will understand, and please forgive me for saying so: but it has been a challenge for me to put this across well: it is a longer-than-one-sentence thought train: it will definitely lose something in the translation. What I am hearing is that you need more proof and a better explanation: and if that is the case, trying to put this across on paper or remotely without proof or thorough explanation will be a waste of both of our time: do you mind if I suggest an alternative?
(Let them give you permission to do so – you must remain silent and give them a chance to answer to do this!)

It is not fair for you to be asked to bring this to the table, and take the responsibility for it if you are not convinced: instead, why not suggest that what I have to say is at least interesting, and that you value the opinion of your colleagues (the real decision makers – don’t say that part) : why don’t you let me do the presenting, either in person or on the phone, then you can talk about me afterward when I am not there: this way you have not endorsed me, just asked for an opinion; fair enough? (the answer is almost always yes – saving the opportunity for the sale!)

5. I need to run this by my ‘Technical Adviser” or “Cousin Vinny” objection:

This is one of the toughest excuses to overcome: it really means that:

I do not feel comfortable or competent to make purchasing decisions involving technology

I have no idea what you just said at all

I want to shop your price, because I do not want to pay you (don’t see the value)

I think I can get my cousin Vinny to do it cheaper

I do not want to believe what you are saying because I am heavily invested In the wrong solution

If anybody believes what you are saying they will know that I am an idiot

I genuinely want to verify what you are saying because

I am analytical and don’t trust you

I have a hidden objection I am not going to share with you, and this is my excuse to get rid of you

This is a tricky one, because in all of the above the customer is trying to end the conversation, and more explanation is needed.

Say this:

OK, I understand that this is a little complicated, and difficult to understand, but if your current technical advisers knew what I know, they would have already recommended these things to you; let me put this in simple terms (quickly)? (Usually this will peak their curiosity and they will agree; please do! They may look at their watch, and tell you to hurry..)

Now you must lead the customer to agree to what you are saying based on what they already know, completely by asking questions: that way, they cannot claim again that they do not understand or that they need advice: it is paramount that you require a response to each question before you move on:

You understand, from your earlier answers, that it would help your business to be on top of the search engines, right? ( require acknowledgment)

We have already established that you do not come up, right? (require acknowledgment)

We know that your current adviser (Cousin Vinney) has not been able to help you with this, it is a specialty, isn’t it? (require acknowledgment)

Then why would you base your decision on their advice?

(The customer is trapped now, must tell you the truth, which is usually what they do – there is some hidden concern, or they have been burned before, or they are not really the decision maker, or they have some hidden thing you must address, perhaps more proof, or something they don’t get, and, now that it is in the open, you can address it..)

Oh, (relieved) now I see what is holding you back, you are actually interested in this, but ..(now re-state the real objection they just told you, which they cannot dispute ) .. that is what it is, isn’t it! (they agree because they just told you it was) .. ok, that makes me feel better, (they now feel a little guilty for lying to you) and other than that very real concern you are actually interested aren’t you (this is a trial close they usually fall into) .. I am so glad to hear that, because that is the very reason why we have ….( proof, or tracking, or whatever it is that addresses the issue).. now they must either cave in and buy, or attempt another excuse, they often close right here:

What would I need to do to make this attractive to you right now and save going through this again? (Another trial close, you will not get any orders, or even get to the truth if you do not ask!)

Now, some will still say no, but it will not be your fault for not asking, and you will not need to wonder why! Perhaps you can better address that issue with the next guy who resembles this one, but be careful not change your proven system every time somebody says no – not everyone will buy no matter what you do.

6. I never do anything the first day – need to think about it objection:

This is the sure sign of an analytical person: a person who just flat refuses to make a decision no matter how compelling the evidence is in favor of doing so. People like this are always the hardest to sell to, and they are often decision makers. Making a sale to such a person is completely different from making a sale to anybody else, and it is the trickiest process I know: but it can be done:

Analytical people are not motivated by anything positive

They are motivated by fear and doubt

The only thing that will make them buy is an existing problem, or a missed opportunity if they don’t

The selling process starts out the same, until it is time ask for the order: then you get something like this:

“You are wasting your time trying to get me to make a decision today, I never do that” or ” I am not the kind of person who will make the decision in one day.”

Now you must shift gears entirely: if you push, you will loose the sale, no matter how compelling the argument: instead, you must retreat, only to come right back:

I can understand that! No problem, we need business next week, next month, and next year, just as badly as we need it today! AND WE MAY HAVE SOMETHING AVAILABLE AT A LATER DATE, SOME OTHER EXCLUSIVE WORDS REGARDLESS OF WHEN YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING!
Let’s just wrap up and review, shall we?
(Sigh of relief with question mark)

Now go over the negative aspects of the client’s situation, nothing positive, coddling their weakness as you go:

We have established that you are already missing business, and that your current situation is costing you money, but I totally understand that you do not make snap decisions

We have definitely shown you real time proof that we can perform, and you have acknowledged that, but you are still not ready to be a client – that is fine

Although it is costing you money, continues to do so you still are not convinced, fine, I understand, and I am sure you can understand and remember that I shared with you that I can only have one client in this town who does what you do, and I must find that right one, because we will be joined at the hip with that client exclusively indefinitely

I hope you won’t mind if I am so bold as to ask you to recommend perhaps someone else local in your business who may be more willing to make a decision? I understand that you need more time, but I am sure that you understand that I must maximize my time, and play the percentages, I must move forward whether you are ready or not; nothing personal, just business: I need to fill this position and I cannot help everyone anyway.

Well I told you I would think about it and get back to you…(frustrated)

I understand, and I have heard that many times: I sympathize with you, it is a lot of pressure; but I have my own agenda, the evidence is compelling for you to want this, and I simply must realize that it is highly likely that in the light of such compelling proof, if you are not ready now, it is likely you will not become my customer, and…I am sure you understand.

Now is the hardest part: you must shut up, and not speak until they do, no matter how long it takes: stair them directly in the eyes, and wait patiently.

They will either close, or ask another buying question (answer and shut up); or they will absolutely commit to a timetable for a decision, and ask you to wait, insisting they are serious; in which case you say:

“Ok, but just for curiosity sake, you obviously have some other very good reason for waiting, do you mind if I ask what it is? “(one more shot at finding the hidden objection!)(now shut up!)

They will either give you the hidden objection, in which case you will ask for the order again after handling it and they will buy; or they will insist that they are serious about buying and ask you for the time to make the decision, in which case you will agree to a clear cut time table, and offer to send more information/proof in the meantime.

7. The why must I pay up front (I want you to commit to me without me committing to you) objection:

This is a very common objection and it is often used as a hello test, so handling it properly is very important:

I am sure you understand that most of our work is in the beginning, and we must commit time and resources to your project that could otherwise be used for other clients and our own ventures; we are also exclusive to our clients, so we must commit to you for at least ninety days without serving your competitors: is the money a problem (shut up – WAIT FOR THEM TO ANSWER!)

If they persist with excuses like I want to see you perform first, or the money is an issue:

Oh, I can understand cash-flow, would a credit card be better? (now shut up and let them stumble all over themselves explaining why they cannot put the whole thing on a credit card)

Oh I see: so you really would be my client otherwise right now, but the payment terms are a problem? (shut up and let them answer!)

Oh, OK: so if we could make some arrangement you would do business right now? (this isolates the objection, and smokes out any hidden objections that still remain – often the money objection is not the real one, read the rest of this series!)

If they say yes, unable to think of another excuse, say one moment: call your sales manager, repeat the whole interchange outlined here to your superior in front of the customer, and include all the reasons why the program would be good for this particular customer, then do whatever your manager says to do

8. I need to finish my website first, then buy SEO and advertising:
put it off until then:

This is one of the most common excuses not to make a purchasing decision: and it should be the easiest to deal with if you do it properly:

OH! Good to hear: they aren’t done yet, eh?

And other than that, you are going to be my client, huh? (Let them acknowledge, thinking you are going to let them off the hook: now you have them!)

Great, because some websites because of the way they are designed will not work at all, and need to be redone: and If I get involved now, I can make sure that your money isn’t wasted, by insuring that placement is taken into account!

Also, a static brochure site will not work anyway, so it is important to plan the integration of the automated features we will be adding during the design period, or some of it may need to be redone! (Now shut up and smile!)

PART NINE: I do not have it in the budget for this period excuse: budgeting calendar:

Think of how silly this is: advertising generates revenue: would you put off your income?! Handle this one this way:

I understand, and that raises a question, doesn’t it!
(Let them ask what the question is)

Well, if advertising worked, how much would you do?
(Let them struggle for a moment, then let them off the hook:)

If advertising works it brings in money in excess of what it costs: if advertising worked you would do a lot, right!?
(They will answer yes)

So the question is: will this cash-flow or not, isn’t it!? Is that the question? (Reluctantly, well, yes)

I am so glad you asked that, because, in fact, this will….

Now go back over all the reasons to buy, especially how much it is costing not to buy in lost revenues, PPC, etc, forcing them to acknowledge all the things they already have acknowledged: then say:

You really cannot afford not to do this, can you? (Now shut up! )

Submit to Google local, and Yahoo and MSN local business centers: it is still free, and it is still the most underutilized, free advertising out there: if you are too lazy go to UBL.org and pay $30

Post partial posts on other blogs and groups – so simple: you write a great post like this one, post partial posts all over other blogs, Yahoo groups, Linked-in groups etc….

Start and manage a group that is on-topic – I do ot know why more people don’t go to the trouble: but they don’t: for instance my group I founded at Active Rain: http://activerain.com/groups/WEB20 – it has 810 subscribers and growing and only 415 posts, I would put to you that it is what I delete, that makes it successful, and not what I add, but it is still an available targeted marketplace for me.

Participate on other blogs and in other groups – you do not need to start a group to access it’s members, just join one. I have found groups at linked-in and yahoo groups with 3-4000 ready prospects for me that read everything posted – heck I can join any group on meetup.com and have access to all the group members immediately by email. From local politics to singles and all points between, there are groups that target your market.

Join the local chamber of commerce, go to all the events – the oldest, and still most underutilized business resources: the local chambers of commerce and local visitors advocacy groups – every city and state and even some counties have government backed groups and agency designed to create jobs, promote touristy, and otherwise benefit your local economy. By getting involved you get exposed to the members, and potential members.

Warm calls – anyone who hangs out a card or brochure or group profile anywhere is fair game: I call them warm calls because they are advertising their business and must answer the phone: if you are looking at their yellow page ad or PPC ad or any type of advertisement the person paying or arranging for that advertising wants to know how and why you came to see the add: “warm”.

Follow up – nothing new, here, but just as underdone as the others: WAKE UP! THE HOTTEST PROSPECT YOU HAVE IS THE GUY WHO YOU HAVE ALREADY TALKED TO – FOLLOW HIM OR HER FOREVER UNTIL THEY BUY, DIE, OR ASK YOU TO STOP! If you do not mail-merge your prospects, clients, and contacts you are missing 50% of the business you could be doing.

Write about yourself – I cannot tell you how many times I have heard of someone being very perturbed at the constant self-promotion of a competitor – well, if you cannot beat them…join in: write about yourself! Well placed articles properly formatted can completely control what happens when someone ‘Googles’ your proper name or company name – control your online reputation

Solicit reviews and ratings – from yelp.com to digg.com and all points between, this new world of user-generated, user filtered content is not going away, and it will become even more widespread – YOUR ENEMIES WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO SLANDER YOU, BY ALL MEANS INVITE YOUR FRIENDS TO DO THE OPPOSITE! – You can write your own reviews on Yelp.com, for instance..

Invest your time rather than your money – expensive advertising can work, but, if you supplement that which you must pay for with that that is free, you will leverage your reach – start a personal blog and make yourself famous one post at a time!

I make my entire living online: I work from home, work in cyberspace, and my company is low overhead giving us a competitive edge. I am sharing the wealth here, please, join me, and join in!

One of our current partners, Brian Bentow, is a computer programmer who wrote a book about computer related injuries: his experiences prior to meeting us, and the processes he went through learning about self-publishing a book, are valuable to anybody who has something to say, and who wants to get the word out for pleasure and/or profit. In fact, this is easier and less expensive than ever before, but there are many out-dated methods and services to be avoided. This article will help the reader avoid spending the money, time, and anguish that Brian experienced on this, his journey:

“My name is Brian Bentow and I published my book called The Computer Athlete’s Handbook: Your Guide to a Happier, Healthier Techy Lifestyle through CreateSpace, Amazon Kindle, and MobiPocket over a year ago and had moderate success. I sold around 100 copies, mostly through Amazon.com, http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Athletes-Handbook-Healthier-Lifestyle/dp/0982044704/.

I had read Dan Poytner’s Self-Publishing Manual. I recommend reading that book. However, the version I read was a bit outdated and did not discuss the benefits of Print-On-Demand services at great length perhaps because they were relatively new at the time. Consequently, I had to do my own research and make my own decisions. I decided to do Print-On-Demand because it has the following benefits:
1.	You can update the content of your book at any time and I wanted to get feedback and planned to make a new edition in the future (This turned out to be extremely important because after I broke up with my girlfriend, I needed to update my dedication page.)
2.	You don’t have to worry about returns, shipping, or fulfillment
3.	You don’t have to buy a few thousand books and invest several thousand dollars and garage space
4.	Createspace has a special program to put your book on Amazon.com for you
5.	You can always do a large print in the future if the book becomes very successful and distribute the book through bookstores

Many of the self-publishing platforms including CreateSpace, Lulu, and others make it very easy to do print-on-demand self-publishing. I decided to publish my book through CreateSpace because approximately 30% of all books are sold by Amazon.com and if you plan to sell through Amazon.com, using CreateSpace for print-on-demand makes the most sense economically. This is because Amazon.com owns CreateSpace and it costs Amazon less to print-on-demand from their fulfillment centers as opposed to using another print-on-demand service like Lulu and then shipping your books to Amazon. Amazon splits the cost-savings with you when you use CreateSpace and undercuts all of the other print-on-demand companies when selling through Amazon.com which riled many self-publishers and print-on-demand companies.

After writing my book and self-publishing it, I thought that most of the hard work was done. I was so wrong! I began learning about how to market a book through the CreateSpace community forms and blogs. People recommended creating a website, blogging, using Twitter, and doing social media marketing. I developed my website ComputerAthlete.net and then found that marketing a website is almost as difficult as marketing a book.

I talked to some PR firms who wanted a few thousand dollars as a retainer fee and then a monthly fee for their services. Having already spent nearly $2000 on my website, book cover, and editing, I was extremely reluctant to hire a PR firm even at this recession adjusted price point. Once again, I decided to do the work myself in order to save money.
I started working on a collaborative web series called Your Computer Is Killing You – the side effects of our techy lifestyles. I produced several episodes which received thousands of views, talked to people from all over the world, started a Meetup.com group in Los Angeles for Computer Related Injury and held around 10 meetings, and started helping people with their techy lifestyles. I spent several more thousand dollars on equipment, video production, video commercials, and advertising. I believe that these efforts added a lot of value but did not sell many books.

Now, I am cash-flowing my book as an e-Book and with Adsense.

http://socialmediasystems.com/computerathlete/

Basically, the idea is that people can find my book using Google, Yahoo, Bing searches and when they click on the Adsense links, I get instant cash. If people want to get the paper copy, they can click the link on the left hand side which takes them to my Amazon book page that has reviews.

I purchased the e-book package from Social Media Systems: http://socialmediasystems.com/computerathlete/

I think that this is a great idea because:

1. People will be able to find my book more easily using the search engines and all of my content is findable.
2. People can try before they buy. Few people will want to read a 100 page book from their computer.
3. I can get instant feedback from my readers through the commenting on my e-Book pages.
4. The e-Book is a living, breathing thing. I can make updates at any time and link to images and my videos, etc..

Lessons Learned:

Creating and marketing a website requires a special skill set and is a ton of work. It is as difficult as marketing a new book. You can check out http://socialmediasystems.com/rothmanguide/ which has a ton of great info. It gave me insights on why my website was not getting the visitors that I wanted. I was so impressed, I joined the company.

Let me know if you have any questions about my experience. I spent 100′s of hours promoting my book and several thousands of dollars on top of the few thousand dollars I spent on creating my book and websites. I could have avoided a great deal of time, expense, and frustration if I had known what I know now.

Now my book is on the top of Google for computer injury self help and for computer related injusry book, and many other combinations of the words that make people whom I want to meet find me.”

Well said, Brian. In fact, there has always been a huge industry in ‘Vanity’ or “Subsidiary” self-publishing: but now, more than ever, everybody has access to the marketplace, the hits are easily monetized through Google Adsense (the owner of the Webpages gets 75% of the money for every click!).

But , in the words of the great deceased pith-man, there is much more: Look at the numbers from our publishing our e-Book:

From our Google Analytics:

Bounce Rate: 17.4% (Unheard of!)

Average time on this page: One Minute, 47 Seconds (It takes half that long to read everything on the page)

Bounce Rate 50.45% (When you consider that nearly 80% of our visitors are first time visitors from Google organic search, this is absolutely amazing!)

Percent Exit 17.4% (In other words, the rest read on! Amazing)

Our hits to our already very busy website have nearly doubled!

See for yourself: you can have one of these for only $299.00 complete:

In Two and a half hours I have done all three of these sites from scratch using this theme, which also allows for different numbers of columns, different widget areas, and any other modification you like, with check boxes that activate built-in style sheet and a blank CSS that automatically overrides the others:

You can change sizes, numbers, and colors of sidebars, widgets, components with the checking of a box, wonderful time saver.

Here is another: http://washingtonrealestateresources.com I just installed this for a client of several years to update his site and plugins.

This one, Dr. Hesu Whitten, clinical Kinesiologist and Chiropractor in Santa Barbara, CA:

Was completely re-designed by the good doctor himself, using the robust theme options.

Update: 12-24-2009, just upgraded another client to this theme:

2010 Managing over a thousand spams, newsletter, CRM, for FREE

We are editing and preparing this now, may take another week or so. In the meantime, here is some information on managing email lists: (if you want the guide when it is done opt-in to the list)

2010 Managing over a thousand spams, newsletter, CRM, for FREE

Gmail has industrial strength spam filters, and can be uses to check all of your pop accounts. You can also then check this ‘filtered’ spam-less mail from your Outlook. I keep Gmail open in FireFox, and chat with technology partners while I am notified of incoming mail. I then occasionally download the remaining spam free mail to my Outlook, as redundant backup, and to allow robust followup options, including my linked-in signature: below; I export all my email lists from Outlook, and import them into my triple opt-in PHP list Server:

http://rothmanmarketing.com/lists/

Which is free software installed on my site to build my triple opt-in subscription list (nearly 10,000 and growing now)

I can also occasionally insert card-scan email lists easily into my op-tin-programming to build the list.

While this system does not allow for constant-contact style overdone spam, it is very effective for building a real and loyal reader base of my contacts and acquaintances who genuinely appreciate my updates and quarterly newsletter, which, while not personal, is actually real and useful and timely information.

Beginning in the 1980′s, I have used similar strategy, though less automated, with great success, including sales of over $8,000,000.00 of products and services that I invented in the last nine years, even $1,000,000 in the last three years of new stuff, in spite of the economy.

While the usual spammy templated stuff will not work with this method, I highly recommend it to you if your are capable of providing real, interesting, and useful information to your contacts at least quarterly: these methods have served me well for over thirty years; and they work even better with today’s technology.

Add to this the blogging of the newsletter information in a category at your own blog on your server to make it also available in HTML, and as a feed or pod cast of any kind the user chooses through Feedbuner, and you have a comprehensive, effective strategy: AND THIS IS ALL FREE, and/or I will set it all up for you and show you how to use it for $500

As we did years ago (you will notice that everything we said several years ago has come out to be true, and much of it still applies) we will sum it all up by reviewing all the pieces to a successful social media marketing (online marketing) campaign: many things have changed in the last 6 years, and some have not: one thing that never changes is the need for competitive attention to detail, because one weak link breaks the chain: let us review:

Just say it: lesson number one is to ‘just say it’; don’t beat around the bush; don’t mitigate your risk; don’t spare anyone’s feelings; just give us the straight ‘poop’, and we will reward you by wanting to see what you will say next.

Group Building – Opt-in Build a following and increase lead capture using Social Media.

Use Social Media for local Farming

Use Video for Lead Capture

Become an authority – Reputation Management

Online Branding: image matters for Internet Advertising

Get numbers working for you on Social Networks

Recent Case study : The execution of a complete and integrated Social Media Marketing Campaign

Niche Marketing and Picking a Battle

Attention to detail, the final competitive edge!

Now the real guts of it all come together; any one of these things done right will help: but just as the best plans of a Real Estate transaction do not result in a sale or a commission unless every little nit picky detail of the transaction has been ‘put to bed’; you will not be as succesful as you could be, and you may not survive periods like the last two years, unless you get it all right! Join the discusssion and debate with your comments on this whole series or any individual post in our group at Realtown.com:

Social Media Marketing and or at our huge Activerain group: http://activerain.com/groups/WEB20 and/or below, by adding your comments (yes they are moderated, sorry spammers!) below!
