Name: Mooter.com
Market Capital: Very small. They are currently going public and are in the process of raising $8 million. They have some revenue, but are losing more money than they are making because of a strong focus on research and development.
Alexa Traffic Rank: 129, 343
Overall Competitiveness: Minimal. They are extremely small and present very little competition. Their value lies in the fact that even a small meta search that is losing money can make thousands, and even millions of dollars by going public, and that they benefit from implementing programs like pay-per-click advertising.
Years in Business: Since 2001.
Strategy: To survive in the Meta search engine marketplace, they are attempting to grow in their niche marketplace and raise revenues by going public. This will enable them to grow and develop new and better technology, perhaps leading them to a reasonably successful revenue model in the future.
Strengths: Building a market share they have an excellent online marketing company to sell solutions and they do have clustering technology, though they haven’t developed it. As an Australia based, they could dominate a niche market because there are no major Meta searches in that geographic marketplace.
Weaknesses: They aren’t currently profitable and have only a mediocre traffic share despite huge development costs.
Other pertinent info: Mooter was founded by Ms. Liesl Capper, a BA with a psychology major, to develop computer technology that enabled web users to better organize their search results through personalization. Mooter secured an R&D Start Grant of $273,000 in September 2001 and launched the beta version of the search engine www.mooter.com in October 2003 (mooter.com).

Hi I founded Mooter. The article above has managed to miss that the bulk of Mooter’s value is not that it has a search engine, but that it provides targeting and personalization technology to giant media partners in Asia. The company has deals with Yahoo! Baidu, and others, and is one of the fastest growing online ad networks in China. It also has operation in Japan and other Asian countries. It gets more revenue fromt his than from simply implementing ppc on its own site.
