Our blogging friends over at Mashup wrote a piece on Microsoft reacting to the Google purchase of DoubleClick by taking up more aggressive talks about making a deal with Yahoo.

Would a Yahoo / Microsoft deal place a divide in the search engine market against rivals like Google and DoubleClick? Are we going to be seeing a growing competition here that will take us down the same road as Firefox and Internet Explorer, or will this battle end in something mutual and beneficial to the common market?
According to Mashup (via Wall Street Analysts), Yahoo has an estimated pricetag of $50 billion.
Do these two partnerships lean towards a divided monopoly? Are there any other contenders out there that can challenge Google’s dominance of the search market, or will the Microsoft/Yahoo partnership be the last contender to have a chance to derail the Google stronghold?

The tide of centralization is in. It will now ebb, as niche markets will abound!

Actually with the wisdom in hingsight , MS and Yahoo merger does not make a lot of sense and MS is trying to build its own online marketing business , the real question now is whether MS can manage the assult that the opensource movement lead by Google has unleashed

I don’t know, I think by combining the resources of Yahoo and MSN they might be able to produce a relevant enough search engine to have a shot at eating up some of the enormous marketshare that Google dominates. I don’t really see a threat from any open source search engine coming anytime in the very near future due to the enormous practical challenge launching a relevant search engine presents.
